The CHS basketball program will host its annual kid's basketball camp May 28-30 for both boys and girls in grades 3rd through 8th. The event is open to kids throughout the region.

The first two days of the camp will be held at Chester Grade School. The camp will move to Chester High School's Colbert Gymnasium for the final day.

The camp will be divided into three time slots to accommodate the various age groups. 3rd and 4th graders will attend each day from 8:30-9:45 a.m.; 5th and 6th graders will attend from 9:45-11 a.m. daily; and 7th-8th graders will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. each day.

Cost is $30 and includes an official 2019 Chester Basketball Camp T-shirt.

Camp instruction will focus on basketball fundamentals, ballhandling, proper shooting technique, defense and footwork. Camp instructors will stress using good manners both on and odd the court; having a positive attitude with fellow teammates, opposing players, coaches, and officials; being a great teammate; and showing respect for everyone involved in the basketball experience.

All campers will need to bring or wear athletic shorts, basketball shoes, and athletic style shirt, and a "great attitude".

CHS Head boys basketball coach Brad Norman said campers will be coached daily by the CHS coaching staff and players and there will be a special guest appearance by Pure Sweat' Coach Barrington."

Barrington has coached several popular pro and college players such as Mo Bamba of the Orlando Magic, R.J. Barrett of Duke and Aaron Cook of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Norman said.

"Barrington has coached for more than 10 years," Norman added. "He specializes in shooting, dribbling, passing, being a great teammate and giving maximum effort."
