CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH ANNOUNCES 1993 OLYMPIC SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION FOR SKI RACERS

 CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH ANNOUNCES 1993 OLYMPIC SCHOLARSHIP
 FOUNDATION FOR SKI RACERS
DETROIT, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Young ski competitors have until Dec. 7, 1992 to apply for $1,000 training scholarships from the Chrysler-Plymouth Olympic Scholarship Foundation. The popular scholarship program, founded in 1989, supports America's most deserving and promising ski competitors, aged 14-18.
The scholarship program is an extension of Chrysler-Plymouth's commitment to the sport of skiing professionally in the amateur ranks and is operated in cooperation with Spyder Active Sports, Inc. "Previous scholarship winners have represented some of the finest junior ski competitors in the country, and many are destined for a place on future U.S. Olympic teams. Chrysler-Plymouth is proud to demonstrate its committment to supporting and encouraging these Olympic hopefuls through the Olympic Scholarship Program," said Marvin Klein, advertising manager for the Chrysler-Plymouth division.
"The Chrysler-Plymouth Olympic Scholarship Program provides financial support for training young ski racers at a crucial point in their competitive careers -- when continued training is essential to turn an Olympic hopeful into an Olympic contender, or even an Olympic medal-winner," said David Jacobs, Spyder's president. "Without this scholarship many of these talented athletes would not have the funds necessary to continue their training."
Todd Brickson, who coaches two of last year's scholarship winners at Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield, Vt., said, "The high cost of training and limited funding sources pose a real challenge for ski racers, so corporate America's support is essential. We're especially grateful when corporations support young athletes, enabling them to focus on their performance rather than the tremendous costs associated with training and competing."
Scholarship applications have been distributed nationally to high school and ski academy coaches, and will be made available to any ranked USSA alpine, nordic or freestyle competitor, between the ages of 14-18, whose competitive ski career is contingent on receiving financial aid. Interested ski competitors may also call Spyder Active Sports (contact: Anita Pedersen, 303-449-0611) to request an application by Nov. 30, 1992. Completed applications must be postmarked by Dec. 7, 1992. Award winners will be announced Feb. 1, 1993.
All applications will be reviewed by a judging panel, which will select 25 scholarship recipients on the basis of their competitive promise, financial need and scholastic achievement. Each $1,000 award will be issued in the winner's name to his or her ski club or academy. The scholarship winners can then draw from these accounts to cover training, travel and race expenses. Members of the judging panel will be announced shortly.
Spyder Active Sports, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high performance skiwear, is the official supplier of race gear to the U.S. Ski Team.
Chrysler-Plymouth, a division of the Chrysler Corporation, supports professional, amateur and recreational skiing, by sponsoring a wide range of programs and events including the Chrysler-Plymouth Championship Ski Series, Chrysler Celebrity Ski Classic and the Chrysler-Plymouth Olympic Scholarship Foundation.
