CHRYSLER TO BUILD NEW FULL-SIZE PICKUP AT WARREN (MICH.) TRUCK ASSEMBLY
 PLANT
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C) announced today that in the summer of 1993 it plans to start production of its all-new, full-size pickup truck, code named the T-300, at the Warren (Mich.) Truck Assembly Plant. The 1994 T-300 models will replace the current Dodge Ram series in dealer showrooms next fall.
To free up sufficient production capacity to meet the expected demand for the T-300 models, Chrysler will move a portion of the production of the mid-sized Dodge Dakota pickup trucks from Warren Assembly to its Toledo (Ohio) Assembly Plant.
"This truck is a real sleeper -- it's going to have a big impact on the full-size truck market," said Chrysler Chairman Lee A. Iacocca. "It's a terrific looking truck and will have the widest selection and most powerful powertrains in the market, biggest passenger cab and should be the first full-size pickup with a driver's air bag. We're convinced the T-300 is going to make Dodge a volume player in the full- size pickup segment and we know the workers at Warren Truck Assembly will continue their record of building high-quality trucks."
Chrysler plans to invest more than $125 million in preparing the plant for T-300 production. The city of Warren has already pledged its support of the project, providing $13 million in tax abatements.
