 CHRYSLER REPORTS GAIN IN JULY CAR & TRUCK SALES
 HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation


(NYSE: C) today reported an eight percent increase in car sales and a seven percent increase in truck sales for July compared to a year ago.
 Car sales totaled 51,665 compared to 47,948 and truck sales totaled 80,145 compared to 75,051. Cars and trucks combined were up seven percent, the corporation's sixth straight monthly increase in total vehicle sales. The gains were attributed to continued increases in retail sales for both car and truck.
 Chrysler/Plymouth division accounted for 26,384 car sales, more than half the corporate car sales. LeBaron convertible sales of 5,416 shot up 248 percent. Plymouth Sundance and Acclaim were up 35 percent and 14 percent, respectively.
 Grand Cherokee and Cherokee combined for 16,108 units to help the Jeep brand to a 13 percent gain.
 Dodge Truck posted a seven percent gain on the continued strength of Dakota pickup, full-size, minivans and commercial minivan sales.
 Corporate minivan sales of 35,773 matched year-ago performance although Chrysler Town & Country sales more than quadrupled.
