CHRYSLER MAKES JEEP CHEROKEE A BIGGER BARGAIN FOR '93

CHRYSLER MAKES JEEP CHEROKEE A BIGGER BARGAIN FOR '93
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation

(NYSE: C) today announced tentative 1993 model Jeep Cherokee prices will average 5.1 percent less than 1992 models. Dealers were sent the new pricing information this week in conjunction with the shipment from the plant of the '93 models.
Cherokee for '93 is available in three price classes: base model, Sport and a new Country model. Depending on choice of two- or four-door body style, and choice of two- or four-wheel-drive, the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Prices range from $12,137 to $14,632 for the base Cherokee, $14,350 to $16,845 for the Sport and $16,038 to $18,533 for the Country models.
These base prices for '93 range from $647 to $2,209 less than '92 models. Customers also will benefit from a higher level of equipment made standard.
"Cherokee competes in an increasingly popular market, made more competitive with the entrance of our all-new Grand Cherokee," said Theodor (cq) R. Cunningham, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Chrysler Corporation. "So we've repositioned Cherokee to reach new buyers, including entry level buyers. We'll offer the right combination of comfort and convenience features while retaining traditional Jeep capability and versatility. And the price is right."
The '93 Cherokee at typically-equipped showroom prices will be about $4,000 to $7,000 less than Grand Cherokee models.
Cunningham said Chrysler is giving Cherokee more appeal through a combination of a price decrease, price class realignment and -- until Sept. 30 at least -- through $500 cash back incentives. Customers also will benefit from "Jeep Discounts" on special equipment packages offered on the Cherokee Sport and Country models. These Customer Preferred Ordering System (CPOS) packages provide combinations of popular options at less cost than if ordered as stand-alone options.
Although the best value will depend on the preferred content the customer desires, Chrysler said the Sport four-door, four-wheel-drive model is expected to be one of the most attractive to customers. A CPOS discount package includes air conditioning, sport decor group, console with armrest, roof rack, leather wrapped steering wheel, tilt steering column and rear wiper/washer.
n?ningham said that despite the introduction of the new Grand Cherokee this spring, Cherokee sales are up 25 percent in '92 vs. '91. With the repositioning, Cherokee sales are expected to continue strong.
