CHRYSLER CORPORATION STATEMENT ON NAFTA AGREEMENT

CHRYSLER CORPORATION STATEMENT ON NAFTA AGREEMENT
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation

(NYSE: C) statement on North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA):
Chrysler will support the North American Free Trade Agreement and is pleased an Agreement has been reached.
Our initial understanding of the agreement is that it will provide access to the growing Mexican market and will confer trade benefits only to the three participating countries. These objectives are critical to Chrysler, and it appears the agreement will go a long way in meeting these criteria. By opening the Mexican market, we believe trade among the three countries will increase and new U.S. jobs will be created. While we are disappointed that we did not receive the 65 percent content level for determining Rule of Origin, on balance the agreement appears to be quite favorable to our company and our employees.
The detailed language of the agreement is critical in ensuring our full support and we have not seen the details. However, we look forward to working with the Administration and the Congress on implementing language that will address any remaining open issues.
