CHRYSLER ANNOUNCES NAMES OF NEW SEDANS: CHRYSLER CIRRUS AND DODGE STRATUS

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C) today announced the names of its new import fighting compact sedan entries -- the Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus -- during the vehicles' world introduction at the North American Auto Show in Detroit.
The challenge implicit in selling Cirrus and Stratus is that the majority of target buyers have not been shopping in domestic showrooms -- some have never stepped foot in one. Cirrus and Stratus represent Chrysler Corporation's opportunity to regain a foothold in a high- volume, import-dominated market where primary competitors range from the top end of the subcompact segment to the heart of the compact segment down to the low end of the midsize segment.
 Chrysler Cirrus
The Cirrus will provide a new, entry level vehicle for the Chrysler brand, providing Chrysler a lineup of contemporary cab-forward sedans that extend from the upper end of compact cars through full-size luxury cars and minivans, said Chrysler/Plymouth General Manager Steve Torok.
"Cirrus, like Concorde, New Yorker and LHS, will be positioned as a domestic alternative to upscale imports," Torok added. "The primary source of sales will come from Camry and Accord owners, as well as domestic owners looking for a more contemporary vehicle." Cirrus plays an essential role in directly addressing the younger buyer with a product that provides a new level of sportiness and excitement not previously associated with the Chrysler brand."
 Dodge Stratus
The Stratus fills out the Dodge sedan lineup by providing a product that fits squarely between the Neon and the Intrepid, said Dodge General Manager Marty Levine.
"It will be targeted directly at younger boomers," he added. "Target buyers have told us they want contemporary technology in a car that's built to last, a design that's thoughtful and expressive, performance that's responsive and reliable and convenience items that bring a sporty flavor to the family sedan."
