 DECEMBER SALES UP 23 PERCENT
 HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- International sales of Chrysler vehicles were up 9 percent in 1991, with sales of 59,909 vs.
54,905 in 1990. December sales were 4,228 units, an increase of


23 percent over 1990's 3,444 units.
 Sales in Europe increased 8 percent in 1991, closing out the year at 44,183 units compared and topping the 41,038 units sold in 1990. In international markets outside of Europe and North America, Chrysler's 1991 sales were up 13 percent, totaling 15,726 units vs. 13,867 for yearend 1990.
 European sales totaled 2,949 units in December, up 24 percent for the month, while other international markets recorded a combined increase of 21 percent to 1,279 vehicles.
 Chrysler's international sales were led by strong sales of Voyager minivans in Europe and a 44-percent increase in Jeep(R) Wrangler sales worldwide.
 Voyager sales in Europe, which accounted for 40 percent of Chrysler's total European sales for the year totaled 17,636 units, an increase of 48 percent over 1990. Last year Voyager represented 29 percent of Chrysler sales in Europe.
 Germany led all international markets with 13,394 units sold -- an increase of 29 percent over 1990 -- and accounted for 30 percent of Chrysler's total sales in Europe and 22 percent of the company's 1991 international sales. Germany finished strong with December sales of 965 units representing an increase of 44 percent over December 1990.
 France was Chrysler's second largest 1991 sales market with 9,280 units sold.
 Middle East sales totaled 7,902 units, representing 50 percent of the 15,726 Chrysler vehicles sold in international markets outside of Europe. Chrysler launched sales in the Gulf in December of 1990 and half of the 7,902 units sold there in 1991 were Jeep Cherokee models, that now account for 20 percent of the 4x4 market in Saudi Arabia.
 Sales in Japan were down 9 percent with yearend sales of 1,855 vs. 2,032 units in 1990.
 Jeep Cherokee continues as Chrysler's top selling model in markets outside of North America, followed by the Chrysler Voyager minivan and then the Jeep Wrangler.
