CHRYSLER, FORD AND GM ANNOUNCE CAD/CAM PARTNERSHIP

CHRYSLER, FORD AND GM ANNOUNCE CAD/CAM PARTNERSHIP
DETROIT, Nov. 11, /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor

Company and General Motors Corporation announced today a partnership in research and development in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology.
The companies said the partnership, the CAD/CAM Research and Development Partnership, will help eliminate inefficient duplication of effort and expense and will contribute toward maintaining the technological competitiveness of the domestic motor vehicle industry in world markets.
The CAD/CAM Partnership will evaluate the feasibility of uniform computer language in automotive engineering and design.
The Partnership anticipates interaction with domestic and international organizations that may influence the shape of emerging CAD/CAM research and development. The agreement allows for projects to be conducted and shared among the partners. Under the terms of the agreement, projects can also be conducted under contract to the Partnership by non-member parties.
The manufacturers said that research and development activities will be theoretical in nature and will not focus on application of specific manufacturing systems. They said individual partners may be involved in similar CAD/CAM-oriented alliances, now or in the future, and that this new partnership will not interfere with such alliances.
Under the National Cooperative Research Act, the U.S. Justice Department Antitrust Division and the Federal Trade Commission have been notified of the partnership.
