CHRYSLER'S FUELS TANK FARM IS REPLACED

CHRYSLER'S FUELS TANK FARM IS REPLACED
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler's test fuels

tank farm at its world headquarters here has been replaced with a new state-of-the-art farm that meets environmental regulations due in 1998.
The tank farm supplies gasoline and other fuels to the 87 engine test cells the company operates for engine development and for work on mandatory federal and state emission requirements.
Replaced was an 11-tank, 105,700-gallon-capacity storage system, and 35,000 linear feet -- 6.7 miles of gravity underground piping -- by eight storage tanks and approximately 4 miles of above-ground piping.
The above-ground piping is steel in an insulated enclosure. The heated and cooled enclosure enables the fuel temperature to remain consistent for reliable and certifiable testing.
The new tank farm was designed and completed in 14 months.
This is part of a 10-year, company-wide program of upgrading tank farms with state-of-the-art designs, one more step in Chrysler's efforts to protect the environment.
The old tanks were installed in the 1940s. They were state-of-the- art then.
