CHRYSLER'S EDUCATION PROGRAM RECOGNIZED AS BEST IN COUNTRY

NEW YORK, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation's (NYSE: C) "World of Work" program, which encourages employees and retirees to help prepare children for the future work place, has been recognized as the best corporate-sponsored education program in the country.
Community Action Network, a national coalition of government, media and advertising leaders promoting solutions to community social problems, honored Chrysler at a ceremony Thursday in New York at the Waldorf-Astoria. The coalition's advisory board includes Walter Cronkite, U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley, former NAACP Chairman Benjamin Hooks and inspirational speaker Norman Vincent Peale.
More than 200 applications were submitted on 20 social problems, ranging from AIDS to child abuse to the environment. Entries were grouped into four categories -- programs sponsored by media, programs sponsored by an individual or non-profit group, public service advertising campaigns and for-profit corporations. Chrysler won first place among corporations. AT&T "Teachers For Tomorrow" was awarded second place and Pepsi-Cola Company's "Magic Room" entertainment program for hospitalized children was awarded third place. More than 40 other companies competed in the category.
"World of Work" began in 1989 in one school with eight volunteers in an effort to prepare children for the future work place. Today, more than 2,000 employees work with children in more than 50 schools throughout the country.
