 CHRYSLER'S 1991 EXPORTS TOTAL 92,000 UNITS;
 SHIPMENTS FROM NORTH AMERICA UP 17 PERCENT
 HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler Corporation's export shipments to countries outside of North America rose to 91,971 units in 1991, a 17-percent increase from the 78,529 shipped in 1990.
 The shipments are a combination of build-up export (BUX) vehicles and complete knock down (CKD) kits, which are major automotive parts and components produced largely by Chrysler's North American operations and suppliers and shipped for final assembly at Chrysler joint venture facilities in Austria, China, Egypt and Venezuela.
 Local assembly requirements, local content regulations and/or import restrictions in China, Egypt and Venezuela limit the sale of built-up export vehicles, making local assembly from North American produced CKD kits the most feasible method of selling Chrysler vehicles in the local market.
 BUX shipments in 1991 totaled 72,570 vehicles vs. 66,181 in 1990, up 10 percent. Chrysler's CKD shipments in 1991 were 19,401 units vs. 12,348 in 1990, up 57 percent. Chrysler's Jeep joint venture in China -- Beijing Jeep Corporation -- received 15,798 shipments of Jeep Cherokee kits, 81 percent of the corporation's 1991 CKD volume.
 Jeep vehicles accounted for more than half of the international shipments. Chrysler shipped 49,170 Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler BUX and CKD units in 1991, an increase of 22 percent over last year's 40,387 units.
 Voyager exports continue their strong growth, particularly in Europe, with 27,042 shipments in 1991, up 85 percent over the 14,635 units exported in 1990.
