CHRISTOPHER G. KENNEDY ELECTED TO CITIZENS ENERGY BOARD
BOSTON, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael LeM. Kennedy, chairman of Citizens Energy Corporation, today announced the election of Christopher G. Kennedy to the non-profit energy company's board of directors.
Christopher Kennedy is vice president of Marketing for Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc., the management company for The Merchandise Mart, The Chicago Apparel Center, and the Washington Design Center. In his nearly five years at the Mart, Christopher has been instrumental in developing the Mart's building products industry, expanding the tenant base and attracting new buyers to the building. He also sits on the board of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, a non-profit corporation which distributes 100 million pounds of food to hungry people every year. He is the son of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy. A graduate of Boston College, Christopher is currently a second-year student at Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
"Chris has proven himself to be a formidable businessman as well as a caring member of the community both in his efforts on behalf of the Merchandise Mart and in his work with the Greater Chicago Foodbank," said Michael Kennedy, who went on to say, "I know that he'll contribute greatly to accomplishing the mission of Citizens Energy Corporation. And, on a personal note, I'm proud and happy to have the opportunity to work with my brother in much the same way that our older brother Joe worked with me so many years ago."
Citizens Energy is a non-profit energy company founded in 1979 by Joseph P. Kennedy II and William E. James and has provided nearly $30 million in heating and technical development assistance for needy people in the United States and around the world. Through its 100 percent ownership of the for-profit holding company Citizens Corporation, Citizens Energy is the parent company to six for-profit, taxable subsidiaries whose gross revenues in 1991 totaled nearly $1 billion.
