CHRISTMAS LIGHTS TO SHINE FOR CHARITY AGAIN IN 1993

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Christmas Lights at Domino's Farms will shine once again this holiday season. The 270,000 lights displayed on the grounds of Domino's Pizza World Headquarters in 1992 will be joined by more lights and a 30-foot-tall "Peace on Earth" globe. Haithem K. Sarafa, executive director of the non-profit organization Christmas Celebration, said, "The light show raised over $110,000 for 134 charities in 1992 and we plan to surpass that number in 1993."
Domino's Pizza has donated the use of the light sets, displays and property to Christmas Celebration. Many other companies and charities have committed to contributing goods and services to help offset the costs of this community-wide event. R. Scott Lorenz, director of Christmas Celebration, said, "The format created in 1992 with the volunteers from charitable groups along with the Honorary Committee selecting the charities proved extremely successful."
"We will be making a few changes to fine-tune the concept," added Sarafa.
The 1992 event drew over 40,000 cars with an estimated 160,000 people viewing the lights. Each vehicle contributed a donation of $5 to travel the approximately 2.2-mile route. The minimum donation this year will again be $5 per vehicle ($50 for buses).
The new five-lane Plymouth Road and traffic plan alleviated almost all the congestion in and around the site last year and this year's route will be operated in a similar manner. Sarafa said that he plans to meet with local residents and community officials to address any other concerns they may have. "We need to continue the good communication and cooperation to make the event successful again."
The display is scheduled to begin the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, at 6 p.m. and will close nightly at 10 p.m., seven days a week through Friday, Dec. 31. Weather permitting, from 6-8 p.m. on opening night only, 10 hot air balloons will illuminate the night in a "Balloon Glow." Lorenz stated that the balloons lit by the flames from the burner "look like luminaries. Kids love them." Gift certificates for admission will be available to corporations to purchase in advance at $5 each in lots of 50 or more. "They are perfect gifts for employees, customers or suppliers," added Lorenz. Checks made payable to Christmas Celebration may be sent to P.O. Box 130713, Ann Arbor, MI 48113-0713.
