CHINA ORDERS EIGHT MORE BRITISH AEROSPACE 146 REGIONAL JET AIRCRAFT

CHINA ORDERS EIGHT MORE BRITISH AEROSPACE 146 REGIONAL JET AIRCRAFT
WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- British Aerospace Regional Aircraft Limited and China Aviation Supplies Corporation announced today the signing of a contract for an additional 8 BAe 146 regional jetliners. The aircraft selected is the 146-300 configured with 112 seats.
Deliveries of the first four aircraft, to be operated by China Northwest Airlines from Xi'an and Lanzhou, will commence during the last quarter of 1992, with the remaining four being delivered during the first half of 1993. The new aircraft will join 10 BAe 146-100s, which have been in-service in China since 1986.
China Northwest Airlines, who will continue to operate its existing fleet of BAe 146-100s, intends to use the new larger aircraft on its fast growing domestic and regional network, including new routes to Hong Kong. The new BAe 146-300s will provide China Northwest Airlines with a unique combination of passenger comfort, reliability, low noise operation and airfield performance on its expanding network.
Commenting on this latest order, Charles Masefield, president of British Aerospace Regional Aircraft, said: "We are proud of our long-term business commitments with the People's Republic of China, and this latest order demonstrates the continuing confidence by China in British Aerospace to provide the right product for current and future markets demand. It is significant that there will be more British Aerospace 146 aircraft in-service in China than the products of any other manufacturer in the highly competitive 70-120 seat category." Masefield went on to say, "The Asian region as a whole is the fastest growth market in the world, and we are confident further orders will follow."
This latest order brings the total number of BAe 146 jet aircraft sold to China to 18, adding to the 53 BAe 146s which have already been sold, or are in operation, throughout the Asian region.
