CHILDREN'S book of the week [...].

CHILDREN'S book of the week QUENTIN BLAKE'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens, Pavilion, hardback PS14.99 HHHH H IT'S A Christmas Carol - you can't knock the storyline, although, if you were a child in the Nineties, you'll know it's hard to separate the classic tale from The Muppets version (what a masterpiece).

Mean-spirited Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three ghosts one Christmas Eve.

They show the miser the true meaning of the holiday season, but will it be enough for Scrooge to change his ways? This reissue gift issue has been updated with a holly berry red fabric cover and filled with Quentin Blake's lovely scratchy illustrations in soft monochromes and rainbow hues.

It'll make a great prezzie for any youngsters who haven't been put off Dickens by school yet.
