CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER SUTER PROMOTED TO SENIOR VICE CHAIRMAN OF
 EMERSON ELECTRIC; ADORJAN NAMED PRESIDENT
ST. LOUIS, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles F. Knight, chairman and chief executive officer of Emerson Electric Co. (NYSE: EMR), announced the following management appointments today: President and Chief Operating Officer Albert E. Suter, Emerson's senior operating executive, has been promoted to the newly created position of senior vice chairman and chief operating officer.
J.J. Adorjan, chairman and chief executive officer of ESCO Electronics Corporation, will rejoin Emerson as president.
Adorjan will have responsibility for Emerson's process control business, including Rosemount, and for Fisher Controls International, Inc., which Emerson is acquiring.
Suter will have responsibility for Emerson's appliance components; fractional horsepower motors; industrial motors and drives; industrial machinery and equipment; heating, ventilating and air conditioning components; tools; and electronics/computer support products businesses.
In addition, Suter will be responsible for the operating plans for all Emerson businesses worldwide, and for monitoring the implementation of those plans through the company's quarterly meetings with division presidents and annual financial review process. As senior vice chairman, Suter will also have responsibility to act in the absence of the chairman.
"Al Suter is one of the finest operating executives anywhere," Knight said. "His contributions to Emerson have been invaluable over more than 11 years with the company. His promotion to the new position of senior vice chairman reflects those contributions. Under Al's leadership as chief operating officer, I am confident that Emerson will continue to grow in our global markets."
Knight added, "Rosemount and Emerson's related divisions are a world leader in process control. The acquisition of Fisher will add significantly to that critical mass. Joe Adorjan was instrumental in the strategic planning that led to Emerson's acquisition of Rosemount, the cornerstone of Emerson's process business, in 1976. He is a highly talented executive who served Emerson well over many years, and we are pleased that he will return as president of the company with responsibility to direct this important business."
Suter, who joined Emerson in 1979, has served in numerous management positions including vice president-international, president of the Emerson Motor Company, group vice president and vice chairman.
Adorjan, who had been a vice chairman of Emerson, resigned in 1990 to serve as chairman and chief executive officer of ESCO when it was spun off to Emerson stockholders.
Adorjan initially joined Emerson in 1968, and in his 22 years with the company served in positions including vice president of planning and technology; senior vice president, corporate development; and executive vice president.
Suter and Adorjan are directors of Emerson, and Adorjan will remain a director of ESCO.
Emerson and Monsanto Company announced in August that they have signed an agreement under which Emerson would purchase the worldwide business of Fisher Controls International, Inc., from Montanto. The acquisition is expected to be completed in early October.
Emerson Electric Co. manufactures a broad range of electronic, electrical and other products for consumer, commercial and industrial markets. Fiscal 1991 sales totaled $7.4 billion.
