CHIEF EXECUTIVE MAGAZINE ACQUIRED BY PRIVATE INVESTORS

NEW YORK, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Chief Executive magazine, the leading publication for U.S. and international chief executive officers, has been acquired from MacFadden Publishing Inc., by a group of private investors led by William A. Mayer and Arnold B. Pollard.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
Mr. Mayer will serve as chairman and Mr. Pollard as president and chief executive officer.
Mr. Mayer, who is currently the dean of the College of Business and Management at the University of Maryland, previously served both as chairman and chief executive officer of First Boston Inc. and CS First Boston Merchant Bank.
Mr. Pollard is president of Decision Associates, a management consulting firm. He has served in various capacities with Chief Executive since 1984, most recently as chairman of the Chief Executive advisory board.
Founded in 1977 Chief Executive is published nine times a year. It has a BPA-audited controlled circulation of 40,000 chairmen, presidents and chief executive officers. Its editorial content is focused entirely on information for and about chief executives.
According to Mr. Pollard, Chief Executive will continue to serve as the leading "trade" publication for chief executive officers.
"Our Chief Executive Roundtable forums on topics of vital concern to our readers attract the top chief executive officers in this country and from around the world. We intend to continue and expand this successful format within the magazine, while exploring other media opportunities for Chief Executive," he said.
So far this year the magazine has responded to chief executive concerns with in-depth looks at retiree healthcare, business education, overseas competition, and corporate taxation. Other features of the magazine include a Chief Executive Compensation Survey and the Chief Executive 100 Index ranking the stock market performance of 100 companies whose chief executive has led the company for at least two years.
Darcy Miller Donaldson will remain as publisher and J.P. Donlon continues as editor.
