CHICAGO TRIBUNE TO SPONSOR WORLD CUP

 CHICAGO, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago Tribune today announced it has become a regional sponsor of the world's largest single sporting event, the World Cup, which will be played for the first time in the United States in 1994.
 The opening ceremonies and first game featuring 1990 World Cup champion Germany will be held on June 17, 1994, at Soldier Field in Chicago. Chicago is the home of the United States Soccer Federation.
 The Chicago Tribune is the exclusive newspaper regional sponsor for the 1994 World Cup in the region that encompasses Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and parts of Kentucky and Indiana.
 In addition, the Chicago Tribune is a local media sponsor of this summer's U.S. Cup match in Chicago featuring Germany against the United States. The match will be held at Soldier Field on June 13, 1993.
 "We're excited to be a sponsor of World Cup soccer," said Richard Honack, director of promotions and public relations for the Chicago Tribune. "We're looking forward to both the U.S. Cup this summer and the World Cup next year."
 More than one billion fans viewed the last World Cup in 1990.
