CHICAGO'S WGCI-FM DEBUTS 'THE TOM JOYNER MORNING SHOW,' JAN. 3 -- FIRST SYNDICATED URBAN MORNING PROGRAM, WITH MUSIC

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom Joyner, the No. 1 name in black radio, is bringing his new show, which will be the country's first nationally syndicated urban morning program, to Chicago.
"The Tom Joyner Morning Show," a five-hour mix of music (live and recorded), celebrity interviews, talk, comedy, sports, and information, will air on WGCI-FM starting Jan. 3. Joyner is no stranger to the station -- he held down a top-rated afternoon show for many years on WGCI while, at the same time, commuting to Dallas where he hosted a morning show. (All this daily travel earned Joyner the nickname of "Fly Jock.") This time, however, Joyner will be based at ABC Radio Networks, Dallas. Joyner's opening show will include Grammy winning artist Luther Vandross and MCA recording artist JT Taylor.
"The Tom Joyner Morning Show" will contain another first on U.S. radio today -- a house band, "Butch Steward and Live House," on-hand to accompany guest and provide music in and out of commercial breaks. The band will be headquartered in a Chicago studio.
WGCI-FM Chicago is part of a growing 32 market network hosting "The Tom Joyner Morning Show" (more than any other syndicated morning radio show at present), including Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami, and St. Louis. More are being added.
"The Tom Joyner Morning Show" is a bold venture in satellite radio put together by ABC Radio Networks. ABC Radio Networks serves more than 3,400 radio stations and is the largest radio network in the United States with an estimated reach of almost 100 million persons per week. ABC Radio broadcasts six full-service line networks, Paul Harvey News & Comment, the ESPN Radio Network, long-form programming, ABC/SMN 24-hour formats, ABC News, sports and daily and weekly features. ABC Radio Networks is a subsidiary of Capitol Cities/ABC Inc., and is heard in over 60 countries.
