CHEVY'S ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION SALES SOAR IN MAY

DENVER, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevrolet's Rocky Mountain Region is feeling the effects of a spring buying surge as the division's passenger car sales increased 51.2 percent (1,961) over the same May period last year, and trucks are up 26 percent (3,653).
The Full-Size Chevy Pickup tops the division's best-seller list with 1,628 retail sales. Metro is second with 614.
The Chevrolet Rocky Mountain Region is composed of the Denver and Salt Lake City zones.
Denver Zone passenger car sales of 1,148 for May are up 32.3 percent over the comparable '92 period, while truck sales of 1,876 are up 21 percent.
Denver's top ten selling Chevy vehicles in May are: Full-Size Pickup, Geo Metro, Cavalier, S-10 Pickup, S-10 Blazer, Lumina, Geo Storm, Suburban, Geo Prizm and Astro.
Salt Lake City Zone passenger car sales increased an incredible 89.5 percent (813) over '92, and truck sales rose 32 percent (1,777).
Chevy's best-selling vehicles in the Salt Lake City Zone for May are the Full-Size Pickup, Geo Metro, Suburban, S-10 Pickup, S-10 Blazer, Cavalier, Lumina, Geo Storm, Astro and Geo Prizm.
"Chevy Full-Size trucks are king in the Rocky Mountain Region for Chevrolet," said Dan Semenik, Chevrolet's regional marketing manager. "Three of the top five in Denver are trucks and four in Salt Lake City. Full-size, compact sport utility and sport utility vehicles do very well here, as well as Metro and Cavalier," Semenik said.
"Trucks have ruggedness and versatility, coupled with car-like creature comforts," said Semenik, accounting for their regional appeal. "And there's tremendous value in the Metro and Cavalier, which keeps them right up there, too," Semenik said.
