CHEVY'S PACIFIC COAST REGION SPARKED BY VALUE PRICING; IMPRESSIVE GAINS BY CAMARO, PRIZM, SUBURBAN, CAVALIER

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- One month into the 1994 model year, with nature's palette vivid autumn colors, consumers are responding to good old American value -- in a big way. In Chevy's Pacific Coast Region, retail passenger car and truck sales are up 32 percent (2,903 cars) and 11 percent (5,628 trucks) over the comparable start of '93 model year.
The division's San Francisco Zone posted a 50 percent increase in retail car sales (1,747 cars) and 16 percent truck hike (2,976 trucks) vs. October '92. Portland Zone, meanwhile, scored a 12 percent car (1,156 cars) and 5 percent truck (2,652 trucks) sales climb.
For 10 months of the calendar year, the Pacific Coast Region is up 24 percent in cars (27,004) and 6 percent in trucks (51,806). The San Francisco Zone accounted for a 29 percent car sales hike (15,234) and 2 percent truck increase (27,612), while Portland Zone 10-month calendar sales saw a 17 percent increase in car (11,770) and 11 percent truck sales for the period against last year.
"There's no question that consumers are responding to Value Pricing in Northern California," said Rick Baldick, Regional Marketing Manger, "particularly with Cavalier, Astro and Lumina Minivan."
Sales of these three products are up 54 percent, 37 percent and 58 percent, respectively, in the San Francisco Zone.
"With Camaro, we're fast approaching Prizm volume," Baldick said. "Demand continues to outstrip supply for both vehicles in both San Francisco and Portland zones.
"As for the Northwest, consumers are beginning to discover Prizm in '94 much like California buyers did in '93," Baldick continued.
The Full-Size Chevy Pickup ranks No. 1 in both zones as the region gets more truck availability to satisfy the strong market demand for the popular trucks -- more than half of which are extended cab versions.
The top 10 Chevy products in the San Francisco Zone for October include: C/K Pickup (1,502), Prizm (482), Camaro (370), Metro (348), Suburban (290), S-10 Blazer (282), S-10 Pickup (279), Astro (266), Cavalier (151) and Blazer (132).
 The Portland Zone top 10 for October are C/K Pickup (1,236), Metro (379), S-10 Blazer (324), Suburban (286), S-10 Pickup (259), Astro (220), Camaro (181), Prizm (165), Cavalier (147) and Lumina (103).
