CHEVY'S PACIFIC COAST REGION SCORES TRIPLE HEADER: SEPTEMBER, '93 CALENDAR & MODEL YEAR SALES INCREASES

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevy's Pacific Coast Region, with an all-star lineup of Full-Size Chevy Pickup, Metro, Prizm, and a phalanx of top-selling trucks has a triple header going into the '94 model year: September, nine-month calendar and '93 model year sales increases.
"The Full-Size Chevy Pickup wins hands-down by every measure," said Rick Baldick, Chevy's Pacific Coast Region marketing manager, talking about the division's regional, zone, and nationwide best-selling vehicle. "Prizm's stunning success in the San Francisco Zone represents a 1,500 percent sales jump over year-ago levels, and Camaro just climbed over Metro for the No. 3 spot in the Bay Area in September.
"The savvy California buyer recognizes a fact the rest of the country is just catching up to -- that the Prizm is probably the best small-car value in the market today," said Baldick.
"In Portland Zone, for the '93 calendar year-to-date, Metro is the best-selling car and second best-selling vehicle in a field of trucks headed by the C/K and followed by S-10 Pickup and S-10 Blazer, Suburban, and Astro," Baldick said.
In the nitty-gritty of the triple header, cars outperformed trucks in overall percent increases, while truck numbers still score higher. The Pacific Coast Region (comprised of the San Francisco and Portland zones) is up 24 percent in retail passenger cars (3,078 units) and 5 percent in trucks (5,600 trucks) for September vs. '92; 22 percent (24,101 cars) and 6 percent (46,178 trucks) in '93 calendar year-to-date (against '92); and 12 percent (29,758 cars) and 7 percent (60,126 trucks) in total '93 model vs. '92.
The San Francisco Zone led in percent of car sales increases while the Portland Zone took the truck sales increase honors. San Francisco posted a 43 percent car sales increase in September (1,774), 26 percent for '93 calendar year (13,487), and 16 percent (16,620) for the '93 model year.
The Portland Zone car sales increases climbed 5 percent for September '93 (1,304), 17 percent (10,614) for '93 calendar year and 9 percent (13,138) for the '93 model year over the same periods last year.
Truck sales in the Portland Zone enjoyed a 10 percent boost in September (2,693), 12 percent (21,542) in the nine-month '93 calendar year and 13 percent (28,121) for the '93 model year against year ago levels. The San Francisco Zone, hampered by low truck inventories, posted a modest 1 percent increase in September (2,907) and '93 calendar year (24,636), and 2 percent increase in '93 model year (32,005 trucks).
 The San Francisco Zone's top 10 best-selling Chevys for September include: C/K Pickup (1,492), Prizm (519), Camaro (329), Metro (311), Astro (298), Suburban (265), S-10 Blazer (253), S-10 Pickup (223), Storm (198) and Cavalier (145).
The Portland Zone's Chevy hit parade for the month highlights these performers: C/K Pickup (1,191), Metro (468), S-10 Blazer (364), Suburban (294), Astro (255), S-10 Pickup (229), Chevy Van (186), Cavalier (171), Storm (162) and Lumina (154).
