 CHEVRON USA PRODUCTS CO. COMMISSIONS
 MTBE UNIT AT PASCAGOULA REFINERY
BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that Chevron USA Products Co. recently started up a Jacobs-designed and constructed Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) production facility at Chevron's Pascagoula, Miss., refinery.
The announcement, made by Jacobs Group Vice President Tom Hammond, indicated that the 2,100 barrel-per-day unit was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
Overall design, construction and commissioning span for this project was 18 months. Installed costs were under budget.
Chevron (NYSE: CHV) and Jacobs developed a standardized design for this unit which is also being utilized for a similar installation at Chevron's Richmond, Calif., refinery. Such a standardized approach is partially responsible for the superior cost and schedule performance on this project.
"Due to the compressed nature of the project schedule, off-site construction was utilized wherever possible to de-congest the construction site and to allow parallel construction activities," said Hammond. The plant site was laid out in modular fashion allowing a major portion of the work to be assembled away from the construction site while field construction efforts proceeded in parallel. "This standardized approach is adaptable to other Chevron applications in the future," he noted.
Work on this project was performed in Jacobs' Baton Rouge and Orangeburg, S.C., offices.
Jacobs Engineering Group, headquartered in Pasadena, Calif., provides single-source consulting, engineering, design, architectural, environmental and hazardous waste management, procurement, construction, construction management, contract maintenance and operations services to government and industry worldwide.
