CHEVRON U.S.A. PRODUCTS COMPANY PURCHASES BANCTEC IMAGEFIRST DOCUMENT PROCESSING SYSTEM

DALLAS, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- BancTec, Inc. (NASDAQ: BTEC), today announced it has received an order for high-speed image processing equipment from Chevron U.S.A. Products Company, the domestic refining and marketing unit of Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CHV). Chevron will use BancTec's second generation ImageFIRST system to process credit card payments at its Concord, Calif., operations center. Prior to purchasing the ImageFIRST system, Chevron had utilized BancTec's 4000 Series workstations for payment processing.
Yvonne Ware, supervisor of remittance banking at Chevron, stated, "We receive about 3.8 million credit card payments each month and we're continually looking for ways to make our processing operations more efficient. After a detailed analysis, we determined that Chevron could realize significant cost savings by utilizing high-speed image technology for remittance processing. The ImageFIRST system will enable us to increase the number of payments we process each day, reduce processing errors and training costs, and offer improved customer service."
BancTec's chairman and chief executive officer, Grahame N. Clark Jr., stated, "Many high volume processors like Chevron have discovered that image remittance processing yields significant economic advantages. Since the introduction of this second generation product in March 1990, we've installed ImageFIRST systems at 23 sites in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and continental Europe. We're very pleased to have the opportunity to install an image system for a current customer that is an acknowledged leader in the petroleum industry."
