CHEVRON TO SELL MIDGRADE GASOLINE IN ALBUQUERQUE

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Chevron U.S.A. Products Company today announced that it will begin selling a midgrade 88-octane unleaded gasoline in Albuquerque, N.M. The new product, named Chevron Plus Unleaded, will replace regular leaded gasoline by mid-November at Chevron's service stations in and around the metro-Albuquerque area.
Chevron will begin converting its stations this week.
The move to drop leaded gasoline and replace it with an 88 octane unleaded grade brings Chevron into early compliance with air-quality regulations that call for removal of lead additives in gasoline by 1995. Chevron Plus Unleaded, at 88 octane, provides a new choice for regular unleaded gasoline consumers who are looking for increased performance from a product with higher octane and enhanced deposit control, but do not feel they need a premium gasoline.
Chevron Plus Unleaded can be used in cars designed for leaded fuel, even in pre-1975 models produced before the advent of the catalytic converter. The main concern has been the possibility of valve recession (sink or seat wear) when these engines are operated on unleaded gasoline. However, after many years of marketing Chevron unleaded gasolines, exhaustive research of published literature, and reviewing the experience of fleet operators, engine rebuilders and manufacturers, Chevron is confident that the 88-octane midgrade is safe to use in virtually all typical passenger cars and light-duty truck engines.
Chevron Plus Unleaded gasoline will be competitively priced. Chevron Plus, like all Chevron gasolines, will contain Techroline, Chevron's patented engine cleansing additive.
Chevron U.S.A. Products Company is a subsidiary of San Francisco-based Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CHV), one of the nation's largest refiners and marketers of gasoline and diesel fuel.
