CHEVRON TO BEGIN CONVERTING BAY AREA STATIONS
MONDAY FOR NEW 89 OCTANE UNLEADED GASOLINE
Chevron will convert the first of its Bay Area service stations Monday (Dec. 9) to end the sale of leaded gasoline and begin selling a new mid-grade, 89 octane unleaded fuel.
The sale of leaded gasoline must end in California by Jan. 1, as ordered by the state Air Resources Board as part of new air quality regulations. Chevron will begin phasing in the new 89 octane unleaded, Chevron Plus, at a Corte Madera station, with conversion of all Chevron stations to be completed by the Jan. 1 deadline.
At 10 a.m., Chevron will have a maintenance crew at Corte Madera Chevron to replace nozzles on the older, leaded fuel pumps with the narrower nozzles used for unleaded fuel. The street price signs, pump decals, and computerized cash registers will also be changed.
A Chevron spokesman will be available to speak about the changeover, including advice for motorists who own pre-1975 vehicles made to run on leaded gasoline.
In addition to the 89 octane mid-grade unleaded, Chevron stations will continue to sell 87 octane regular unleaded and 92 octane supreme unleaded.
 Directions:
-- From San Francisco to Corte Madera Chevron, which is located on the west side of Highway 101 in central Corte Madera (Marin County):
Take Highway 101 north to the Tamalpais Drive (central Corte Madera) turnoff.
Turn left on Tamalpais and go west across the highway to the signal at Madera Blvd.
Turn right and follow Madera Blvd. about half a mile along the front of the Town Center shopping center to the station, which is at 90 Madera Blvd. adjacent to Highway 101.
-- From the north, take the Madera Blvd. turnoff directly to the station.
