CHEVRON CONTRIBUTES TO LOS ANGELES RELIEF EFFORTS AND OFFERS SUPPORT FOR 'RELIEF LA'
CHEVRON CONTRIBUTES TO LOS ANGELES RELIEF EFFORTS AND OFFERS SUPPORT FOR 'RELIEF LA' LOS ANGELES, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevron Corporation has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross and $20,000 to the Conservation Corps to assist displaced families and help clean up riot-torn Los Angeles, Chevron's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ken Derr said today at the company's annual meeting in Los Angeles. Derr said that Chevron is fully in support of Mayor Tom Bradley's extra governmental task force "Relief LA" to be headed by Peter Ueberroth. "We have been in contact with both Mayor Bradley and Peter Ueberroth to extend our support for their rebuilding efforts," Derr said. "Much of our experience in community activities involves job training and kindergarten through 12th grade education. "We think we can be of significant help, " said Derr. Derr said the company has adequate supplies of gasoline, and despite eight badly damaged stations, all of Chevron's remaining 250 stations in the Los Angeles area are open. In addition, the company has not increased wholesale gasoline prices to dealers since April 28. "We are advising credit card customers in affected areas of our disaster credit policies -- that is, extending credit terms to those in need of help," said Derr. "We hope that this terrible human tragedy can now be put behind us, and we can all get on with working together on the task of rebuilding," he said. -0- 5/5/92 /CONTACT: Wally Fassler of Chevron, 213-489-4133/ (CHV) CO: Chevron Corp.
