CHEVRON CHRISTENS NEW TANKER, THE WILLIAM E. CRAIN, IN BRAZIL

CHEVRON CHRISTENS NEW TANKER, THE WILLIAM E. CRAIN, IN BRAZIL
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- In a ceremony held at the Ishikawajima do Brasil Estaleiros S.A. (ISHIBRAS) shipyard in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jean Crain christened Chevron's newest tanker, the WILLIAM E. CRAIN, named for her husband, who is vice president for exploration and production and a director of Chevron Corporation.
This latest addition brings Chevron's worldwide tanker fleet to 42. Under a contract with Mitsui & Co., Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries Company, Ltd. (IHI) of Japan, the WILLIAM E. CRAIN is the final vessel in a series of four identical 150,000-deadweight-ton tankers built for Chevron by IHI and its Brazilian affiliate, ISHIBRAS.
These four new tankers are replacing older vessels as part of an ongoing Chevron fleet retirement and renewal program. The WILLIAM E. CRAIN will carry approximately 1,100,000 barrels of crude oil on each voyage. Its size will allow it to be effectively utilized in any of a number of regular Chevron trades -- West Africa to the U.S. East Coast, Indonesia to the U.S. West Coast and the Middle East to the U.S.
William Crain, in addition to his vice president and director positions with Chevron, is a director of the American Geological Institute Foundation and the National Ocean Industries Association, and is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Stanford University Earth Sciences Advisory Board and the University of Texas Engineering Foundation Advisory Council.
He joined Chevron in 1957 after graduating from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in business and economics and a master's degree in geology and metallurgical engineering.
