CHEVRON CHEMICAL COMPANY SOLICITS OFFERS FOR ITS ORTHO CONSUMER PRODUCTS BUSINESS

CHEVRON CHEMICAL COMPANY SOLICITS OFFERS FOR
 ITS ORTHO CONSUMER PRODUCTS BUSINESS
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevron Chemical Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corp., is seeking offers for the purchase of its ORTHO Consumer Products Division. This decision is part of Chevron's long-term strategy to evaluate non-core businesses to determine if they have greater value to other companies.
ORTHO is the leading supplier in the U.S. of consumer lawn and garden products.
"ORTHO continues to be a growing and profitable business," said John Peppercorn, Chevron Chemical Co. president. "In fact, ORTHO forecasts another record year in sales and profits, following its 1991 record year. Chevron management values this business and its contribution to the corporation and will sell the division only if an attractive offer is made."
While offers are being solicited, Chevron will insure that all ORTHO operations and current projects continue uninterrupted.
The ORTHO Consumer Products Division, headquartered in San Ramon, Calif., has 580 employees and annual sales in excess of $250 million. It has manufacturing facilities in Ft. Madison, Iowa and Maryland Heights, Mo., and regional marketing offices in Concord, Calif.; Chicago; Atlanta; and Perth Amboy, N.J.
ORTHO provides more than 300 products, including outdoor insecticides, fungicides, weed killers, plant foods, indoor household insecticides and an extensive array of do-it-yourself garden and home improvement books.
