CHEVRON AWARDS MAJOR CONTRACT FOR ASSEMBLY WORK AT THE PORT OF NEW IBERIA

LAFAYETTE, La., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevron U.S.A. Products Company and The Ralph M. Parsons Company today announced the award of a $10 million contract to Fluor Daniel Inc., for the assembly of refinery process plant modules at the Port of New Iberia, La. Work will begin in December this year. The modules will be shipped through the Panama Canal to Chevron's Richmond Refinery near San Francisco, in May of 1994.
These modules play a critical role in Chevron's ability to complete the Cleaner Fuels Project at the Richmond Refinery and produce reformulated gasoline by the dates mandated by the federal Clean Air Act and the California Air Resources Board. "Use of the assembly site originally developed by the Port of Iberia and ARCO for Alaska North Slope modules is a unique opportunity. The experienced work force and excellent facilities, along with the enthusiastic support of the port authorities and the local community, clinched the site as the most effective place for us to have the modules assembled," said Gary Fischer, a Chevron project manager at Richmond.
The award of the work will result in continuation of about 250 jobs at the ARCO/New Iberia site over the next six months. In addition, local suppliers and subcontractors will have an opportunity to contribute to the assembly work.
Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CHV), the third largest petroleum company in the United States, operates two profit centers from Lafayette. Chevron has more than 3,200 employees in Louisiana.
