CHEVROLET CAPRICE SNAGS BIG CALIFORNIA POLICE CAR BUSINESS IN '94

SACRAMENTO, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The State of California has awarded Chevrolet a bid for 742 Caprice police cars for the California Highway Patrol -- the first time Chevrolet has received the CHP business since 1989. Coupled with other related police department orders, total Caprice police car sales in the state could reach 4,200 in 1994.
That includes so-called "piggy back" sales, in which local agencies use state or large county specifications and pricing to order cars. The CHP cars will be delivered through Maita Chevrolet in Elk Grove.
In addition, Chevrolet has again won the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bid, with portions of the 280-car order split between Sopp Chevrolet in Huntington Park, and George Chevrolet in Bellflower. George Chevrolet also is the apparent low bidder for a minimum of 350 Caprices for the City of Los Angeles Police Department.
