 CHESAPEAKE DISPLAY AND PACKAGING COMPANY
 ORGANIZES PERMANENT DISPLAYS DIVISION
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Chesapeake Display and Packaging Company, which is recognized as one of the nation's leading producers of promotional displays, has organized a Permanent Displays Division.
George F. Barnes, president of the company, which is headquartered in Winston-Salem, said that four key executives have been named to operate the division. They are Tom James, operations; Pat Manna, sales and marketing; Steve Harberger, design; and Bill Legard, strategic planning.
Barnes said that Chesapeake could add as many as 25 full-time positions before the end of this year to staff the new division. Chesapeake Display and Packaging Company currently has approximately 280 full-time employees in Forsyth County and, during peak seasons, provides work for up to 450 additional people on a temporary basis.
The new division will focus on display units that are made of a combination of materials, such as plastic, metal, wood and wire, and have a functional lifespan from six months to more than a year. This is contrasted with promotional display units, which are made of corrugated board and used for short periods of time.
"The Permanent Display Division will be based in the Northridge Business Park in Rural Hall," Barnes said. "We have been designing and marketing permanent displays for some time. Now, we're making a major commitment. This makes it possible for us to offer Chesapeake's clients full service merchandising programs involving both promotional and permanent displays."
He said that Chesapeake will be able to design displays, create prototypes, and manufacture and assemble permanent display units in Rural Hall.
Barnes said Chesapeake's decision reflects changes that are taking place nationally in retailing. "In the last few years, retailers have taken greater control over what they have in their stores. Their interest in developing a complete, integrated environment that enhances their ability to sell. We're seeing much greater cooperation among the manufacturers of products, the producers of display units and the retailers themselves," he added.
Chesapeake Display & Packaging Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chesapeake Packaging Co., located in Richmond, Va. Chesapeake Packaging Co. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chesapeake Corporation (NYSE: CSK), an integrated paper and forest products company based in Richmond, Va.
