NEW YORK, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Chemical Banking Corporation (NYSE: CHL) today announced the appointment of John J. Stack as executive in charge of the New York Consumer Banking Group, including management of its 426 branches statewide.
Stack, 45, joined Chemical in 1977 and has held a wide range of senior management positions in retail banking, most recently as executive in charge of implementing the integration of consumer banking activities following the merger of Chemical Banking Corporation and Manufacturers Hanover Corporation. Prior to joining Chemical, Stack was an aid to Mayor John V. Lindsay. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard University Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor's Degree from Iona College. Stack lives with his wife and daughter in New York City.
In his new position, Stack succeeds Alan M. Silberstein, who has accepted a newly established position as executive vice president and director of retail banking at Midlantic Corporation.
Michael Hegarty, who heads Chemical's Retail Banking and Real Estate Finance, stated, "While we're sorry to lose Alan, Jack is an example of the impressive management depth our merger has created. His broad experience in consumer banking provides him with the expertise and knowledge to understand our customers' needs and continue to provide them with the highest level of service."
Chemical Banking Corporation is the leader in the New York consumer banking marketplace, with 50 percent more branches than its closest competitor.
