CHEMFIX TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES NEW PATENT APPLICATION
 FOR MUNICIPAL SLUDGE TECHNOLOGY
METAIRIE, La., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Chemfix Technologies, Inc. (CTI) (NASDAQ: CFIX) today announced the filing of a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the treatment of municipal sewage sludge.
Daniel N. Silverman III, chairman, president and chief executive officer of the company, stated that development of the new process was begun in 1989 by its Technology Development and Management Group. The results of their research and pilot scale testing is a new high- oxidation, municipal sewage sludge (biosolids), waste-treatment process called "The ChemPost System(TM)," which produces a superior end product called "ChemPost(TM)."
The company has also designed engineering enhancements to complement the new process. The new process drives off nuisance, odor-causing ammonia immediately, which is then captured in an air scrubbing system following pathogen destruction in a newly developed, pathogen-killing device called the "Thermoveyor."
The "ChemPost System(TM)" utilizes unique chemistry and equipment to produce a mechanically stable and pathogen-free end product in a very brief time period. The "ChemPost(TM)" end product has virtually no ammonia odor and can be used as a soil substitute, landfill cover material or agricultural amender.
Silverman said that "the company is excited over the development of this new technology which represents a substantial improvement over the company's traditional Naturite(R) process and other existing alkaline stabilization techniques. The ChemPost System(TM) can provide municipalities a cost-effective, rapid process to render municipal sludge completely safe and suitable for beneficial use applications within a few hours without creating any nuisance conditions."
He added: "We intend to target small- to medium-size domestic and international municipal wastewater treatment facilities with multi- approach technology sales and service offerings. The potential ChemPost(TM) market in the United States is estimated in excess of $300 million per year while the international market is vastly larger."
Chemfix Technologies, Inc. is an environmental services company that provides analysis and treatment of hazardous and nonhazardous waste materials for industry and government.
