CHELSEA PLOT RAID FOR SRNA; Football Spy.

Byline: JOHN CROSS

CHELSEA manager Carlo Ancelotti is considering a cut-price move for Croatia captain Darijo Srna in January.

The Shakhtar Donetsk full-back is running down his contract and may be ready to quit Ukraine, although the club are trying to persuade him to stay.

Ancelotti (right) has been watching developments since the spring.

He would be interested in a deal if Shakhtar decide to cut their losses and sell rather than risk losing Srna for nothing. Juventus, Bayern Munich and Tottenham have all watched the 28-year-old, who played in the 5-1 defeat at Arsenal in the Champions League earlier this month.

Srna's agent, Damir Stimac, said: "There is a chance of a loan in January before moving in the summer. But we will see what develops."

With Srna likely to leave at the end of the season, Shakhtar - who are currently top the Ukrainian League - are more likely to want to secure a permanent deal in the new year rather than accept a loan fee.
