CHEFS' HURRICANE BENEFIT CHANGED TO SEPT. 25
AVENTURA, Fla., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- "SOS Hurricane Victims

Recovery" Fundraiser and Auction has been moved to Friday, Sept. 25 to avoid conflicting with the Saturday, Gloria Estefan hurricane relief concert.
Thirty of the nation's most famous chefs are flying to Miami to be paired with 30 of South Florida's finest chefs for a food and wine tasting benefit and auction at Turnberry Isle Resort & Club from 7-11 p.m. on Sept. 25. The event is being spearheaded by Share Our Strength (SOS), one of the nation's largest private nonprofit sources of funds for hunger relief. The organizers hope to raise more than $150,000 for relief operations to feed those left hungry and homeless by Hurricane Andrew, the largest natural disaster in U.S. history. Tickets to the benefit are $65 each; 100 percent of the total ticket revenue will go directly to hurricane relief efforts, thanks to event sponsor American Express, House of Seagram and American Airlines. Each of the visiting chefs from Hawaii to New York are raising additional funds in his or her home city prior to the Sept. 25 event to maximize the amount of funds raised for the victims of Hurricane Andrew.
"Of all the charity events I've been involved in, this one has drawn by far the most immediate and positive response," said Executive Chef Robbin Haas of Turnberry Isle Resort & Club, who is in charge of chef recruitment of the fundraiser.
"I've been working on this benefit since the day after the hurricane. I had to find a significant way to help those whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Andrew," said event organizer Cheryl Stephenson of Turnberry Isle Resort & Club.
Participating SOS Chef John Sedlar of Bikini Restaurant in Los Angeles, said, "Food is the great communicator. I think it's really a tremendous communal effort that chefs as far away as Los Angeles can help with the rebuilding of Florida."
W Magazine has asked their trade readership to donate designer fashions, jewelry and accessories for the event's auction. The Bal Harbour Shops are collecting and cataloging all auction items.
To donate auction merchandise and for ticket information contact Cheryl Stephenson at Turnberry Isle Resort & Club at 305-932-6200 or 305-933-6900. For those who cannot attend the benefit but would like to support SOS's Hurricane Relief Fund, make checks payable to Share Our Strength and indicate "Hurricane Relief" on the envelope. Send checks to Turnberry Isle Resort & Club, 19999 W. Country Club Drive, Aventura, FL 33180.
Since its founding in 1984, Share Our Strength has distributed more than $7.5 million to over 200 hunger relief agencies and community development programs. The SOS network spans 100 cities across the United States and Canada and includes more than 5,000 chefs, restaurateurs and other hospitality professionals who volunteer their skills and resources to raise funds for hunger relief.
