CHED EVANS RAPE CASE REVIEW IS UNDER WAY.
A REVIEW of the Ched Evans rape case is under way.
The Criminal Cases Review Commission has confirmed that a "substantive investigation" has now begun, but added that this did not indicate a judgment as to the merits of the application or its chances of being referred for appeal.
In April 2012, Evans was found guilty at Caernarfon Crown Court of raping a 19-year-old woman at a hotel near Rhyl the previous May.
An application from the footballer and his legal team was received in July, and the inquiry was fast-tracked in October. A CCRC spokesman said: "The case has not been prioritised because Mr Evans is relatively famous, because he plays football for a living, or for any reason external to the specific facts of the case."
