CHECKPOINT SYSTEMS, INC. CHARTS NEW COURSE WITH
 INTRODUCTION OF POINT-OF-SALE MONITORING SYSTEM
THOROFARE, N.J., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- In a strategic move to provide comprehensive solutions to help retailers control internal theft and shoplifting, Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHEK) has introduced Viewpoint(TM), a Point-Of-Sale (POS) monitoring system.
According to A.E. Wolf, Checkpoint's president and chief executive officer, retailers are tightening inventory controls to maximize their profits. "The pressure is on retailers to control costs and improve profitability. Checkpoint offers retailers technologically advanced solutions like Electronic Article Merchandising(SM) (EAM) to control shoplifting and enhance merchandising capabilities. Viewpoint, which addresses the issue of internal theft, is a logical extension of our product line."
Viewpoint detects and provides a visual record of POS transactions that may have been manipulated to enable employees to steal money and/or merchandise. The new system records and stores every transaction that occurs at the POS. "Such total transaction monitoring systems offer several advantages over exception-based systems which only record transactions meeting pre-selected criteria," said Wolf. "With Viewpoint, all data is captured which could prove useful in the determination of improprieties. In exception monitoring, a thorough understanding of selection criteria is essential. If a mistake is made, there may be no usable events to analyze."
The new system collects data by connecting to the POS system network and requires only one physical connection. Viewpoint is comprised of a PC compatible computer with hard disk, monochrome monitor, modem and printer. A large data base in the computer stores all transaction activity. Users can access the data base to look for suspicious activity. Black and white or color CCTV equipment can be used.
Checkpoint Systems, Inc. offers a variety of security and loss prevention solutions for the protection of assets in diverse market applications. As the leading developer of advanced microprocessor and radio frequency-based security systems, the company has more than 20 years of experience in the loss-prevention industry. Checkpoint's Electronic Article Merchandising(SM) and Electronic Access Control (EAC) systems are based on its Electronic Signatures(R) technology which makes unique radio signals assignable to items or people. Using detectable, paper-thin, disposable circuits than can be activated and deactivated without contact, the company's EAM systems are installed in more than 50,000 retail locations worldwide. All of the company's loss prevention products, from EAM to EAC, work together to provide the most comprehensive security solutions available in the industry today, for applications in retail, industrial and institutional markets.
