CHECKFREE CONTRACT WITH TV ANSWER ADDS ELECTRONIC BILL PAYMENT OPTION
 TO TVA'S INTERACTIVE TELEVISION SERVICE
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- TV Answer, the leader in wireless interactive television, signed a contract today with CheckFree to provide electronic bill payment processing services for consumers using TV Answer's national two-way television system.
 CheckFree is America's largest electronic funds transfer (EFT) company, serving as the payment processor for over 1,200 businesses nationwide and nearly 2 million consumers. CheckFree annually processes more than $3 billion in payments while networking with more than 45,000 financial institutions and over 400,000 merchant billers in the United States.
 Consumers will use TV Answer's remote control to position a cursor on an icon on the screen, then click the remote control's trigger to order CheckFree to make the payment. CheckFree will process the request, then send payments either electronically or by printing and mailing a check.
 "This contract represents a crucial step in creating TV Answer's service network because it assures that we can provide the ultimate in convenience to consumers when they use TV Answer to pay their bills," said Len Smith, TV Answer's vice president of data products. "CheckFree is known as the industry leader in adopting innovative technology to expand its operations and improve consumer service. Interactive television is a natural fit for them. This contract reflects their belief that TV Answer's two-way television service will be an important element in the expanding world of electronic funds transfer."
 TV Answer will be available to consumers early in 1993. The roll out schedule will be determined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is anticipated to start issuing licenses for interactive television service by the end of 1992. TV Answer and its manufacturing partner, Hewlett-Packard Co., are committed to placing 1.5 million home units, called Interactive Television Appliances (ITAs), during the first year of service.
 TV Answer is a wireless, two-way television service that turns TVs from one-way information and entertainment vehicles into two-way communications tools. In addition to bill paying, TV Answer lets consumers play along with game shows and sports events, respond instantly to news polls and interactive advertising, and participate in distance learning. TV Answer also lets consumers shop, bank, order prepared foods like pizza for home delivery and organize TV programming information.
