BEDDERS 898 COVENTRY RD, SMALL HEATH B10 0UA VErDICt: HHHHI VErDICt: HHHHI AFTER getting a right soaking in Digbeth last Friday - when a dodgy paving stone also tipped water into my shoe - I decided to drown my sorrows in the footsteps of Poirot star, David Suchet.

He's still pictured on the wall eating at Bedders, a shop established in 1946 but now looking splendid thanks to a brilliant restaurant refit.

Sitting in at the end of lunchtime, I had a plate of fine cod and Maris Piper chips sprinkled with freshly cut onions - which resembled dazzling white sequins on a golden Strictly Come Dancing outfit. Even if you have peas, bread and tea it's still only PS6 to sit in.
