CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS LAUNCHES DIRECT PANAMA INTERNET ACCESS TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB

HOUSTON, March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Charter Communications International, Inc. (C.COM(TM)) (wholly owned subsidiary of Maui Capital Corp.) and its Phoenix DataNet(TM) de Panama subsidiary, today announced the launch of direct Panama Internet access to the World Wide Web. C.COM President, Roan L. Scraper stated that the new service was established through the installation of a 256 Kbps link between the Phoenix DataNet satellite/telecom site in Houston and the Phoenix DataNet de Panama satellite teleport facility. The Panama teleport center is a $1.5 million communication support installation that includes a 9.2 meter fully redundant C-band earth station. The satellite transmission is through Mexico's Solidaridad satellite system, under the terms of a 10 year government agreement. "The dynamic combination of satellite telecom and Internet services is key to our goal of delivering reliable, low-cost communication systems in Panama and all of Latin America," said Scraper.

The Internet connection is being previewed this week at EXPOCOMER-96 in Panama, and is connected to the Panama teleport facility via a wireless connection at the exhibition center. Scraper says, "This important communication link is possible through the agreement and continuing cooperation with INTEL, the Panama Government owned telephone company. The opportunity for state of the art Enterprise Network development in Latin America and the Caribbean basin is now a reality, and the service is a powerful new communication tool for U.S./Latin America interests."
