CHARMING SHOPPES REPORTS OCTOBER SALES

 BENSALEM, Pa., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Charming Shoppes Inc. (NASDAQ: CHRS), the retail women's apparel chain, today reported that total sales for the four weeks ended Oct. 30, 1993, increased 9 percent to $92.5 million from $84.8 million for the comparable period ended Oct. 31, 1992.
 Sales for comparable stores increased 1 percent during October.
 Sales for the nine months ended Oct. 30, 1993, increased 7 percent to $897 million from $841.5 million for the comparable period last year. The company's year-to-date comparable store sales decreased 1 percent.
 Charming Shoppes Inc. operates 1,287 stores in 44 states, under the names "Fashion Bug" and "Fashion Bug Plus."
