CINCINNATI, Dec. 1 ~PRNewswire~ -- Charlotte Moore English today was named vice president and general manager of Scripps Howard Broadcasting's (NASDAQ-NMS: SCRP) Kansas City television station, KSHB, effective Dec. 31. The announcement was made by Lawrence A. Leser, president and chief executive officer of the broadcasting company.
English succeeds Bob Wormington, who has announced plans to retire Dec. 31 after a 42-year broadcasting career. She has been station manager at the Fox-affiliated station since May 1990 and for three years prior to that was assistant general manager~programming for WMC, Scripps Howard's NBC affiliate in Memphis.
"Every position Charlotte has held since she joined Scripps Howard in 1987, and her career up to that point, has prepared her for these new responsibilities," said Leser. "She brings a well-rounded background and a list of impressive accomplishments to the job."
English began her 21-year broadcast career as a research analyst at WBBM (CBS) in Chicago. In 1973 she was named research director at KTVU (independent) in San Francisco, and the following year she became assistant research director at WPIX (independent) in New York.

In 1984 she became broadcast operations and programming director at WMAR (NBC) in Baltimore, which has since become a Scripps Howard station. When she left WMAR in 1987 to join Scripps Howard in Memphis, she was a station vice president.
"My background in research helps me understand the selling process, interpret what people like to watch and analyze trends," English said. "My experience in a variety of managerial positions with large- and medium-sized network and independent stations has given me a broad perspective. I look forward to applying this perspective to the leadership of this fine station."
English is a member of the Missouri Broadcasters Association Board of Directors and previously served on the board of the National Association of Television Program Executives International.
A native of Chicago, English graduated in 1971 from Roosevelt University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. She is married to Claude English, head coach of the men's basketball program at Park College in Kansas City.
