CHARLES W. KLINE NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PENNSYLVANIA LOTTERY
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Revenue Secretary Eileen H. McNulty announced today that Charles W. Kline of Harrisburg has been named the new executive director of the Pennsylvania State Lottery, effective April 13.
Kline is deputy secretary for administration in the Department of Agriculture. From 1988 to 1991, he directed the department bureau responsible for overseeing the state Farm Show Complex and Arena.
McNulty noted that it was under Kline's leadership that the Farm Show Arena added several new events to the facility, including the 1991 relocation of the Harrisburg Heat professional soccer team from Hershey.
During Kline's tenure at the Farm Show, the facility saw a revenue increase of 30 percent. In addition, the new food service contract that he implemented in 1991 boosted food revenues at the arena by 28 percent.
"Chuck Kline's track record demonstrates the type of strong, entrepreneurial spirit that we need at the Pennsylvania Lottery," McNulty said. "It's that kind of leadership that will spur continued growth in the Lottery as it enters its third decade."
Kline said he was "excited about tackling the challenges that the Lottery provides."
"This is a unique opportunity -- to guide one of the most respected and efficient lotteries in the nation into its third decade of growth," Kline said.
"Pennsylvania has a mature Lottery and it's from this broad base of support that we will work to increase player interest through creative innovations to our games."
Kline will receive an annual salary of $61,000. He succeeds James R. Scroggins who resigned last Nov. 29 after directing the state Lottery for four years.
Kline is married to the former Bonnie Jarbeck and has two children.
