CHARLES V. MCCARTHY NAMED PRESIDENT OF PEPPERIDGE FARM

CAMDEN, N.J., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Campbell Soup Company (NYSE: CPB) announced today the appointment of Charles V. McCarthy as President of Campbell's wholly owned subsidiary, Pepperidge Farm, Incorporated, of Norwalk, Conn.
McCarthy, who has been President of Campbell Sales Company -- Campbell's U.S. sales force -- succeeds Richard A. Shea, who retains his title as President of Campbell's Biscuit & Bakery Division. Shea will relocate from Norwalk to Campbell Headquarters in Camden.
"With Charlie ably running Pepperidge Farm, I will be able to focus greater attention on the Biscuit & Bakery Division, which encompasses our North American brand, Pepperidge Farm, our pan-European brand, Delacre, and (with our recently attained majority ownership in Arnotts in Australia) Arnotts for Asia," said Shea.
McCarthy, 43, joined Campbell in 1971 as a District Sales Representative in the Boston area. There he held various sales management assignments until moving to Pepperidge Farm's Norwalk headquarters in 1978 as a Product Marketing Manager. In 1982 he was named General Manager of Pepperidge Farm's Food Service business, leading that unit to record results. In 1986 he took over Pepperidge Farm's flagship Bakery Unit, which produces Pepperidge Farm's broad line of breads, rolls and stuffings and again achieved outstanding results. He became President of Campbell Sales Company in 1990.
McCarthy, a native of East Providence, R.I., received a B.A. in mathematics from Rhode Island College in 1971. He and his wife, Ann, have two children. They will relocate to Connecticut.
