CHARLES SCHWAB CHOOSES MARKET GUIDE FOR UPGRADED EQUALIZER 2.4

GLEN HEAD, N.Y., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., one of the nation's largest brokers, has released its upgraded Version 2.4 of the Equalizer, incorporating the 6,700 public companies tracked by Market Guide Inc.'s financial information database. The Equalizer is an investment software product designed to provide on-line trading, portfolio management and account information for Charles Schwab clients. Market Guide Inc. is the developer and marketer of a high-end analytic and research database distributed to thousands of investment professionals through most of the large information vendors.
According to Charles Schwab vice president Michelle Swenson, "We chose Market Guide over our previous information provider because Market Guide's company reports provide our clients with more comprehensive information on a broader set of companies. This additional report strength is in line with our enhanced network access and the other enhancements included in Version 2.4."
Drawing upon the huge volume of information compiled in the Market Guide database, The Equalizer now provides users with 5 pages of news and analysis on 6,700 publicly traded companies - 2,000 more companies than in Version 2.3. Equalizer users will find four new sections of data on each company added from the Market Guide database:
--Company Comparison. For each company, key measures of profitability, valuation, financial strength and growth statistics are compared to the averages (computed by Market Guide) for the company's industry and the S&P 500.
--Institutional Ownership. Shows the number of institutions owning stock in the company, the percentage of the shares outstanding they own, and the net number of shares purchased by them in the preceding quarter.
--Company Contact. Name, address and phone number of the investor contact within the company.
--Equity Information. Each company report will now indicate the number of common and preferred shares authorized, issued, held in treasury, held by insiders and others who own a significant percentage. The reports also list the amount of short and long-term debt, and provide public offering, dividend and stock split information.
"We are delighted to be working with Charles Schwab and to bring their clients the detailed company statistics vital to sound investing," said Market Guide president Homi Byramji. "The Equalizer 2.4 is a superior product and we are pleased to be a part of it."
The Market Guide database contains text, financial and descriptive information on each public company. The information is displayed as closely as possible to the way that companies report. In fact, it is the only analytic database that preserves the "as reported line item descriptions." The Market Guide database is currently distributed by most major information vendors in the U.S. including Bloomberg L.P., Bridge Information Systems Inc., ILX Systems, Inc., Investext, Lotus One Source, Quotron Systems, Inc., Shark Information Services, Inc., Telemet America, Inc., Telescan, Inc., Track Data Corporation and Vickers Stock Research Corporation, and is utilized by thousands of investment bankers, portfolio managers, research analysts, traders and brokers. Market Guide Inc. is a public company traded over-the-counter with ticker symbol MARG.
Charles Schwab & Co., founded in 1974, is one of the nation's largest brokerage firms with 186 branch offices.
