CHARLES Kennedy, [...].

CHARLES Kennedy, left, is the only Lib Dem I have any time for. He opposed his party going into coalition with the Conservatives and was proved right.

He was a better leader than Nick Clegg, who was well named after a parasitic fly - he belongs in the political midden. Kennedy, on the other hand, sparkled in defeat. Moments after hearing he had lost to the SNP, he stepped up to the podium and said: "I am very fond of political history. "Tonight, if nothing else, we can all reflect on and perhaps tell our grandchildren that we were there on the night of long sgian dubhs."

The Lib Dems may be dead and buried but I predict Kennedy will remain a media darling for years to come.
