CHARLES BARKLEY OF THE PHOENIX SUNS WILL HOST FOX PROGRAMMING ON MAY 1 AS 'COPS' GOES TO PHOENIX

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles Barkley, power forward of the Phoenix Suns basketball team, will host Fox programming on Saturday, May 1, when the network's acclaimed reality show "Cops" goes to Phoenix for the first time to film the city's police officers in action. Barkley will introduce each half hour's programming from 8-10 p.m. ET/PT (all times ET/PT).
The interstitial segments, shot in Phoenix's America West Arena, depict Barkley playing on the practice court against a police officer, running down the players' tunnel leading into the arena and talking to viewers from the stadium seats. They were directed by Malcolm-Jamal Warner ("The Cosby Show"), who also appears in the final spot. Claude Brooks ("True Colors") and Rob Johnson ("The Making of the Hammer Video") are producers of the spots for Tres' Deep/Kolbeco Productions Inc.
The evening's schedule includes two episodes of "Cops," one filmed in Phoenix (8-8:30 p.m.) and one (8:30-9 p.m.) in Philadelphia, the home of Barkley's former team, the Philadelphia 76ers. They are followed by two episodes of "Code 3," including one episode devoted to high-risk sports rescues at 9 p.m. and a second episode at 9:30 p.m.
The sports rescues include the explosion of a "funny car" at a race where speeds reached nearly 300 mph, a diver bitten by a shark in Australia and a rescue team saving the lives of freezing mountain climbers in the French Alps. At 9:30 p.m., "Code 3" will feature the story of a power boat racer who crashes into a crowd of onlookers, a teen-ager trapped under a Wisconsin bridge and journalists who try to outrun a Kansas tornado.
