Theme: Student and Community Outreach
The chapter is committed to promoting accounting careers to students and helping them be successful in their careers. We have been successful in raising funds for the scholarship program to help with cost of education. We also participate in community outreach. Financial literacy presentations, collecting Toys for Tots, food drives and collecting books are a few community outreach events the chapter has participated in.

Engagement with our members is important and we're making an extra effort to generate more engagement and provide more notable value for our emerging members as they start their careers in accounting. We're excited to be provide a six-part series combining soft-skill seminars that are rarely taught through traditional education with networking mixers to help provide some helpful skills for both the workforce and the world that are invaluable to advancement.

Theme: Public Understanding of the CPA Profession
When the public understands the incredible resources CPAs have, our profession will find security for future generations of CPAs. CPAs used to have one distinguishing characteristic: we were the only profession allowed to sign audit reports. That distinction is still true; only CPAs may sign off on audits. Yet many CPAs do not hold the license required to sign audits. They are certified as tax preparers. This "dual path" to certification is confusing to the public. It's important that we provide clarity on what a CPA can do. Only then will the future be secure for the CPA profession.

Theme: The Most Important Step Is Showing Up
It's hard to make time for anything in our busy lives, but the knowledge and network gained from being involved in CalCPA can be life- and career-changing. The only way to take advantage of these benefits however, is to show up to chapter events and be open to the opportunities you find there.

Having entered public accounting in a non-traditional time, I want to focus on never being limited to opportunities that may come our way. Each closed door opens many opportunities for new life adventures. It's important to embrace these opportunities and to learn from them.

Theme: Increase Financial Professional Membership and Value
CalCPA has always been an asset for CPAs, particularly in providing valuable networking opportunities with fellow CPAs. However, a valuable piece of a CPA's network includes the financial professionals who share mutual clients. Including financial professionals in all networking opportunities builds both our networks and is an added benefit to all current CalCPA members.

Theme: Giving Back
I chose my theme as I'm passionate about using our gifts or knowledge we have learned to help others. I enjoy seeing people grow and succeed, even if they're learning from my mistakes. I heard it said: "Your success is determined by how many people you are able to help solve a problem, or helping others to improve the level/quality of something in their life.
The finest form of happiness is found when we help others achieve their goals and dreams. Or, like I've heard: "Our desire to succeed should truly be as great as our desire to help others reach their big goals."
